Job description :

As a senior manager, the Vice President of Operations is accountable for proper delegation of responsibility, assignment of authority and adequate reporting systems/controls to ensure business operations and shareholder value are optimized. Under broad general guidelines and policies, he (she) has responsibility for all activities connected with processing and well executing a project/contract from the time that the request for quotation is received until the equipment is operating satisfactorily in the customer’s shop and the customer has remitted final payment; and maintain activities to ensure total customer satisfaction.

Position requirements

  • Provide strategic leadership and overall operational direction and consistency to enhance productivity, quality and customer service.
  • Drive and develop a performance management culture through coaching and/or coordination with HR for training and development.
  • Develop, communicate and implement mid - long term goals and production plans for areas of responsibility to ensure continued excellence, including appropriate contingency and risk planning.
  • Identify, develop and implement progressive and standardized methods of continuous improvement.
  • Define and maintain standards of project execution and performance.
  • Develop capital and major maintenance improvement projects.
  • Improve Systems and Processes to match the world-class standards.
  • Ensure acceptable financial results by meeting revenue and cost targets.
  • Managing, Coaching and Development of a Leadership team.
  • Drive accountability and ownership through all layers of the business.    

Skills and qualifications :

Education and / or experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology or engineering discipline with a sound knowledge of customer manufacturing
  • 10 years+ of operations management experience in an executive leadership capacity (manufacturing /high–tech environment)
  • Proven experience in working with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Experience of managing $30M-$50M projects
  • Mechanical design background is an asset

Professional competencies

  • Strategic planning and goal setting abilities with track record of implementing change, turn-around initiatives and process re-engineering solutions.
  • Recent history of accomplishment in leading manufacturing projects is a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and six sigma processes is a definite asset.
  • Extensive understanding of complex sales and business development with long life cycles.
  • Proven record of having direct responsibility for P&L activity of $30M-$50M range manufacturing operations.
