Our client is a Canadian leader in the food industry for more than 30 years. The company is part of a group based in Europe and operates many plants in Canada.

Reporting directly to the Corporate Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) based in Europe, with dotted line to the local Canadian General Manager, our client is looking for a bilingual experienced HR Director for Canada, to develop and manage policies & procedures for our company. We need an individual with excellent interpersonal and managerial skills to oversee the staff and make sure that all their HR activities & programs are effective, in line with the group, and with legal requirements. The position is based in Montréal, Quebec, Canada.

HR Director Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor members of the management team.
  • Actively collaborates with the department’s head and other team members.
  • Develop and incorporate HR policies and procedures.
  • Proactive in talent acquisition, people development and retention.
  • Oversee the recruitment and hiring process.
  • Make sure that all HR activities comply with Canadian legal requirements.
  • Provide guidance on overall employee’s compensation.
  • Establish and manage employee benefits programs.
  • Manage relationship with the various HR related governmental entities.
  • Assess and improve the performance management system.
  • Provide coaching and advice for employee relations performance & terminations.
  • Participate in succession planning.
  • Determine employee’s needs.
  • Develop and manage training programs.
  • Provide guidance to the HR department.
  • Harmonize policies and procedures across the Canadian sites.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws.
  • Ensure pay equity at all levels within the organization.
  • Develop the right HR strategies aligned with the company’s objectives to accelerate business growth.
  • Support the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Keep regular contact with the group's international counterparts.

Skills and qualifications :

HR Director requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or another relevant field.
  • Member of CHRP association.
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience, including team management.
  • Previous experience working as an HR Director or HR Manager
  • Perfectly fluent in French & English, spoken & written.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian labor regulations (Provincial & Federal).
  • Complete understanding of the best HR policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience with reporting and data analysis.
  • Capability to lead and manage a team.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Strong devotion to ethics.
  • Flexible, responsive to change and demonstrate adaptability.
  • Has a positive approach with a can-do attitude.
  • Accountable, takes responsibility for consistent completion and follow-up on his jobs.
  • Multi-tasking with the ability to remain calm during high volume periods.
  • Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
