Job description :

Lead the financial strategy and the profitability objectives for the Canadian business in order to ensure expected return of investment for the Company’s shareholders.  This role works closely with other key functions including Business Development, Legal, Market Intelligence, and other global corporate functions.

Within the scope of Operations, this role will manage all operational functions related to product supply, supply chain management, customer contracts & pricing.

Essential functions:

  • Support Business Planning & Control by developing the financial strategy, budgets and plans, which will also encompass developing divisional strategies for competitiveness, growth and targets. Implement operational best practices as well as oversee the execution of a comprehensive budgeting process and co-ordinate the effective financial management practices of the overall business
  • Support the Commercial teams in the execution and implementation of the contracting & pricing strategies within their respective markets.  Lead Commercial financial performance review processes, including: analysis of monthly financial performance and operating expenses.
  • Contribute to the development of divisional FINANCE policies, procedures and systems and ensure development and implementation at country level, in line with local requirements and best practices.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the financial accounting management process including transaction processing, financial accounting and debtor/creditor management.
  • Oversee the issuance of financial information as well as ensure the timely preparation of GAAP/ IFRS compliant Annual Financial Statements for the organization’s head office and report financials to Executive Management.
  • Manage the balance sheet and cash flows. In cooperation with the group finance and treasury, manage local funding, exposures and bank relations.
  • Fully knowledgeable and keep up to date regarding local tax requirements and relations with local tax authorities. 
  • Identify risks and exposures for the organization as well as ensure a local risk management policy and execution plan are in place.  Arrange for local risk finance solutions.
  • Contribute to the implementation and monitoring of corporate and local governance requirements.
  • Use sound judgement to balance the need to work independently and take initiative with the need to escalate work to management.
  • Overall financial accountability for payroll & benefits.
  • Mentor and guide direct reports as well as key business partners.

Operations

  • Overall accountability for product supply and supply chain activities including supplier performance
  • Understand cost drivers across the supply chain and propose projects to reduce costs
  • Escalate problems which cannot be resolved through interaction for management intervention
  • Support deal and project implementation where new products are incorporated into an existing franchise
  • Manage strategic direction and service levels of IT systems
  • Overall accountability for pricing & contracts

Skills and qualifications :

  • CPA, CMA, CFM, or CFA required
  • Bachelor’s Degree minimum required in Business, Commerce or Finance
  • An MBA or post-graduate degree is preferred
  • At least 5-7 years of experience with finance or accounting is required 
  • Excellent financial modeling and analytical skills and advanced user with Microsoft Excel and other relevant data warehouse tools
  • 10 years operations and supply chain management experience within the pharmaceutical or food manufacturing industries

Specific skills:

  • Experience in complex supply chain cycles and demonstrated ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Knowledge of formal supplier performance management processes
  • ERP implementation experience
  • An understanding of business and management principles, leadership strategies and strategic planning
  • Experience working within a global organization with dotted line accountability across a variety of sectors
