Job description :

Our client, a global leading steel distributor, is looking to hire a General Manager that will facilitate the growth, strategy and day to day management of 6 locations across Canada.  This role will report to the President and ideally positioned in the corporate office in the GTA west.

Responsible for providing the leadership, guidance and tools for the successful operation of the Canadian business. Reviewing, recommending, formulating, administering organizational policies aligned with the corporate vision and goals.

The GM will be hands on with: 

Strategic Planning and Management of facilities

  • Develops and executes plans for new buildings and expansion activities in order to meet the needs of the market. 
  • Responsible for the acquisition of capital equipment, layout, material flow and environmental protection for all facilities. 

Management of Safety and Lean Programs

  • Develops and oversees safety and lean programs for the Canadian business. 
  • Monitors operations, ensures that safe procedures and practises are documented in place and followed.

Branch Operations Management

  • Oversees and coordinates the activities of designated branches, being involved as required to ensure effective operations and relationships are maintained through appropriate branches and customer contact.
  • Ensures that company policy, procedures and systems are established and followed.

Corporate Administration

Oversees and manages corporate functions, including purchasing and the Lean Management program.

General Management

  • Train, coach, motivate branch and corporate management personnel. 
  • Interacts with the Canadian President in the development and growth of the Canadian Operations. Contribute as a member of the senior management team.

Skills and qualifications :

  • 5-10 years of metal distribution or industrial manufacturing senior management/leadership experience.
  • A university degree.
  • Fluency in French is definitely an asset.
