Job description :

To manage, oversee and participate with the General Manager in steering all aspects of the Canadian operation’s financial accounting systems and functions.

General duties :

  • The Controller will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities for all plants in the Americas.
  • Function as a business partner to the General Manager and consultant to the Board of Directors, providing knowledge and guidance on all company financial-related matters
  • Ensure the development and implementation of the Annual Operating Plan and long-Range plan that supports strategic objectives.
  • Develop organizational strategies by contributing financial and accounting information, analysis, and recommendations
  • Translate operational metrics into financial performance measures by evaluating trends, establishing critical measurements, designing systems, resolving problems, and implementing change
  • Control the cash flow position of the organization and maintain the integrity of funds and securities, manage working capital by effectively monitoring accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Manage relationships with financial institutions, administer banking arrangements, and maintain adequate sources of capital
  • Maintain appropriate financial records, prepare required financial reports, budgets, and forecasts, and ensure audit completion and follow-up
  • Responsible for all other compliance and statutory reporting – tax, insurance, Statcan
  • Ensure compliance with legal contracts, statutory and tax obligations, contingencies, and leases.
  • Functions as management link between staff and globally based accounting team.
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team.
  • Oversee the issuance of financial information, while personally reviewing and approving all financial results, audit documents and tax returns.
  • Overseeing all financial aspects of the company’s SAP system, including process flows and transactions.
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations.
  • Lead and manage the finance team – total of 5 direct reports
  • Direct in-service training and development of staff.

Skills and qualifications :

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of combined experience in both Financial and Industrial / Manufacturing environments at the Controller level.
  • Must have strong leadership skills, must be able to lead by example whenever necessary and promote team approach to problem solving.
  • Must be self motivated and display the skills required to develop and motivate employees.
  • Exceptional time management, interpersonal, organizational and communicational skills both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact with people at all levels, both inside and outside the organization
  • Previous experience managing in a standard cost environment.
  • University degree in Finance or Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Professional designation – CPA, CA / CPA, CMA / CPA, CGA
